It is with great honour that we announce that Darran McKenna has made the final shortlist for the 2018 National Dairy Council (NDC) and Kerrygold Milk Quality Awards.
Making the final shortlist of nine puts Darran in the top bracket of quality milk producers in the country.
The awards recognise standards of excellence in dairy farming, with dairy co-operatives throughout the country invited to nominate their top suppliers.
Each of the nine finalists were visited by judges over the last three months; the winner will be announced at the awards ceremony in Dublin on 3 October.
Darran milks 92 cows on 62ha grazing platform. The average herd yield is 5,800 litres with the cows doing 4.08% fat and 3.47% protein. The TBC is 7 and the SCC is 86.
The judges were particularly impressed with Darran’s attention to detail over the course of their rigorous visit to Co Monaghan.
We would like to congratulate Darren, his wife Denise and their four children Daithí, Caragh, Micheál and Annie.
